Update: The significant weather advisory has been extended to 6 p.m. and includes Waynesville, Raybon, Nahunta, Hortense, Atkinson and Hickox.
A significant weather advisory has been issued for southeastern Wayne, northeastern Brantley and western Glynn counties for strong winds and excessive lightning valid until 6:00 p.m.
At 4:23 p.m., the National Weather Service doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms centered along a line extending from 5 miles northwest of Mount Pleasant to 4 miles north of Hortense, moving southeast at 5 mph. These strong thunderstorms will also affect areas around Waynesville, Raybon, Nahunta, Hortense, Atkinson and Hickox through 6:00 p.m.
Excessive cloud-to-ground lightning and gusty winds of 45 to 55 mph can be expected along with possible minor damage. Heavy rainfall will produce ponding of water on roadways and minor flooding of low-lying areas.
