Employees at the Family Practice Clinic are the latest to feel the impact of Charlton Memorial Hospital’s ongoing financial woes.
Hospital CEO H.D. Cannington confirmed Friday evening that clinic staff did not receive paychecks that day.
“Yes, we were not able to meet payroll today,” he told the Herald. “Hopefully, we’ll be able to pay people the first part of next week as soon as some funds come in.”
Cannington said the same “lack of cash” that plagued the hospital before its closure caused the problem last week.
“There was something that hit us and I felt like it was something we had to pay, it impacted more people,” he said. “It is very, very, very unfortunate. It was very difficult to do, but I felt it was the best choice we could make.”
