Enterprise suspends publication

Special to SEGAZINE

crumpledThe Brantley Enterprise has suspended publication indefinitely after county officials bungled the transfer of the legal organ from the Express, marking the sixth year the newspaper has gone without the revenues the legal organ status provides each year.

“Enough is enough,” Enterprise publisher Ken Buchanan said.

“We believe the people of Brantley County want a better newspaper, but their county officials — not so much.”

However, plans to bring legal action seeking damages against the county will continue, the publisher said.

Did anyone in this county NOT see this coming? To trust most of the “powers that be” in this county is to make deals with the devil! We are famous for acting now and checking the legality of our behavior later! I know of no board/council/agency that has not subscribed to this irresponsible practice at one time or another. Even our courts and law enforcement agencies have been guilty of this! (Thank God for recent changes in at least one of these!) We were making baby steps toward operating in an efficient and progressive fashion, but the unconscionable, INTENTIONAL negligence that has caused the Brantley Enterprise an absolute fortune over the last several years begs belief that we are back to square one! Sad!
