GOP candidates in Waycross share desire to impeach Obama

Special to SEGAZINE

Holding in common basic values of freedom and a desire to impeach President Barack Obama, six Republicans who are vying to be the next First District Congressman participated in a spirited debate in the auditorium of South Georgia State College here Tuesday.

Earl Martin, of Blackshear, Darwin Carter, of Alma, John McCallum, of St. Simons, Bob Johnson, of Savannah, Buddy Carter, of Savannah, and Jeff Chapman, of Brunswick, have much in common, the forum audience learned.

Primarily, each wants to see the nation’s debt reduced, jobs created and the rights of the American people protected against foreign and domestic threats, one of which is a president they all agree “should be impeached.”

McCallum put the evening’s theme in basic terms when he said: “We need to stand and take our country back.”

George Barnhill, assistant district attorney for the Waycross Judicial Circuit, served as moderator. Jimmy Carter, chairman of the Ware County Republican Party, and Tommy Hatfield, vice chair, along with Pierce County Republican Party chair Linda Dennison, welcomed a large crowd of voters and the candidates to the auditorium.

Each of the candidates — well educated and well versed, conservative in his political views and a Christian by profession — was given time for a two-minute opening statement.

Each agreed that America is at a crossroads and is facing some of the worst problems it has faced in many years.

Buddy Carter, who is married to Waycross native Amy Coppage Carter, said he wants to see his children and grandchildren have the same opportunities he’s had.
