The Brunswick City Commission continues to refine a draft ordinance that outlines a procedure for filling commission vacancies.
The new ordinance defines how the commission will select a mayor or commissioner if the office becomes temporarily vacant.
The City Charter only addresses a permanent vacancy.
The proposed new ordinance states that the unexpired term shall be filled by the remaining members on a majority vote.
Last Wednesday night’s discussion centered around the details of how a new commissioner/mayor would be selected. When the proposed ordinance was discussed at the June 19 meeting, Com. Johnny Cason asked that a procedure on how to make the selection be included in the new ordinance.
