Gov. Nathan Deal has appointed Assistant District Attorney Bradley Collins as the new Waycross Judicial Circuit district attorney, but it may be a while before he can take office.
Collins suffered severe burns in a July 2 cooking accident and has already undergone six skin grafts at the Augusta Burn Center and may be released today.
Family members said he tried to carry a frying pan with burning grease out the door to dump it, but the door was locked and the hot grease spilled over his face, neck, arms, legs, feet and hands.
He will fill the unexpired term of Rick Currie, who recently resigned.
ADA George Barnhill has been acting DA since Currie’s departure.
