UPDATE: The Brantley County Sheriff’s Office has identified the mother and son found dead in a van as Dorothy Daniels and John Glenn Daniels. They were discovered in a van about 10 p.m. Tuesday when deputies responded to a call on Georgia Highway 110 near Buster Walker Road in reference to a possible “dead on arrival” (DOA) call and found two people unresponsive in the vehicle.
Unconfirmed reports indicate the mother might have had a heart attack and the son, who was handicapped and apparently unable to exit the van, died from heat exhaustion.
The vehicle was sitting just a foot from the road in a private driveway, according to officials.
The case has been handed over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and no official cause of death has been released but both bodies have been sent to the state crime lab as is normal procedure in the case of unattended deaths.
